Maternity Care & Support In Los Angeles County
Empowering Black women, birthing persons, and their families to feel safe, respected, and informed through their entire pregnancy journey.
We believe...
Black families are long overdue for a positive transformation of their maternity experience.
A New Vision For Black Maternal Healthcare
In the US, Black people are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy complications than any other race, and two-thirds of these deaths could be prevented by improved care.
But Black parents and families don’t necessarily need the numbers to know there’s a problem. They live through it, either first-hand or through hearing medical horror stories.
For Black parents, pregnancy in the U.S. can feel like just one more time they need to fight racism and implicit bias. It’s exhausting, and it’s unacceptable.
That’s why we created the Black Maternal Health Center Of Excellence (BMHCE) - to create a new vision of Black maternal healthcare in Los Angeles County, and beyond.
